Jay and Kay Save the World! (Part 1)

All that Jay wants is a peaceful breakfast in suburbia. That illusion of tranquility is shattered by Kay's obnoxious dancing, and a whole lot more...

The final adventure from 'Caution Wet Paint' starts here! With dancing, aliens and so much more, take a look at Jay and Kay's grand adventure to the edge of reality - and beyond!

Storyboarding...

Ah, the storyboards. Sometimes I draw them (stick men, at best) but often I will photograph the actors/actresses in a dress rehearsal. It is surprising how close to reality these boards are. They are also ludicrously fun sessions when you can really muck about during rehearsals and flesh out the story itself.

Most of the storyboards I did for Save the World were from the fight scene between Jay & Kay and the milk bottles. This was practical. To put it simply, this was going to be the difficult scene, an action scene, and so the planning needed to be good. Also mixing animation and live action into the same scene was going to be tough and I needed to know exactly where the actors were going to be before I shot the animation sequences.

The only was way to do this was during a photographic storyboard so I knew where the actors were going to be in relation of the rest of the set.

Enjoy, the logistical nightmare that is the shooing of 'Caution Wet Paint!'

A look back at 2009...

This is quite a personal comic strip. It has been a tough 2009 for CWP, but rather than blog about it, I decided to illustrate it. The big question I am asking myself is 'what do I do next?'

And to be honest, I do not know...

Agent Special Delivery

Apologies for being a day late with this one, but Monday was rushing around on Planet Earth with very little to show for it! Anyhow, we see Jay unleash his comic book fantasies by portraying his flatmate Kay as 'Agent Special Delivery'!

This particular comic has a murky beginning. This is partially based on a webisode and partially based on Jay himself. It's easier for you to watch the webisode than for me to prattle on about it, but needless to say, it establishes in the cannon the 'Dumb and Dumber' aspect of Jay and Kay's relationship. And yes, Jay is most definitely the 'dumber'...

So enjoy the almost darker side of CWP with 'Kay the Cool'. Not sure how I will spin this one out, but something will come into my mind...

The Director's Chair

A little look at film making from the Director's Point of View.

You see what happens in front of the lens, but there is a whole process that goes on behind the lens to make the magic come to life! Enjoy!

Silvertop!

A simple one this week, and following on from the last week's issue, we take a look at the second protagonist from 'Jay and Kay Save the World', Lieutenant Silvertop, the 'ying' to Goldtop's 'yang'.

So take a little look at the fun that Silvertop gets upto!

Da Crew!

I love those guys. Really. Well, maybe not that much. But, I had to immortalise the folks behind the camera. The ones, who normally, do not get the glory, but who have as much 'fun' as anyone else on set. The crew!

Right, El Director is off on holiday and so the comic strip will next be up and running on Monday October 19th! Until then...;)

Milk! From Outer Space!

I really liked doing this, both as a short film and as a comic strip.

Originally, Nick came to me and asked me to shoot Jay and Kay in the back garden, just chatting, and most importantly, having the milk bottle 'disappear. He then told me to 'trust him'. So I did. A few weeks later, he brought me the animation sequence and so was born the two alter egos of Silvertop and Goldtop.

The reason why I have enjoyed this webisode so much is that the story is continued in the latest incarnation of Caution Wet paint, Jay and Kay Save the World! Yep, give me a chance, and I will string a story out far beyond the stars...into the realms of madness!

Quantitative Easing

This strip is a one off, for now. And I will see how this one is received, but I was feeling a little bit political, and so without further ado, I present Jay and Kay's take on the current state of the UK economy and farce that is known as Quantitative Easing. Enjoy!

The CWP Comic - Kung Fu Jay! (Part 2)

Part 2 of Kung Fu Jay. I loved shooting this particular webisode with Ari and Kuldip, as it was a complete laugh to do. I also managed to squeeze out two shorts from one shoot. I am particularly proud of this webisode, and it stands as one of my favourite CWP moments. Why? Well, all the webisodes were scripted from the feature length script. If there was a point in the script I was not sure about, I would write a sketch to test it out. There is a scene in the CWP script which requires a 1930's silent film to be slotted in. And the concept works beautifully, as you can see below

Issue 5 - The Suitcase

I will admit that as a comic, this one is a little bit trippy. I really wanted to explore the stylisation of the characters and so really had a play around with the strip itself. So please, bear with me for this one. Anyhow, you can catch the original webisode from where this comic descends from by clicking here!

After next week, I will start to drift away from the webisodes. While they will be the starting point for the adventures of Jay and Kay, I will no longer stick religiously to the order of their braodcast, and will have a little 'fun' with the world of CWP!

Enjoy! (cmd)

Issue 3 - The 'Milkman'

This is personally my favourite webisode from the first series of CWP. The part of the tale where Kay gets to move in with Jay and so really kick starting their adventures together. I loved shooting it, I enjoyed editing it, and today, I still get a kick out of watching it!
